E-cigarettes are becoming increasingly popular, with more and more vape shops popping up in popular areas of cities and even in shopping malls. With this emerging trend among teens and young adults, there’s a need for important vaping facts and charging safety education now more than ever. As with any electronic device, e-cigarettes come with their own risks and precautions. However, since everyone already has a ton of electronic devices they need to charge and take care of on a regular basis, e-cigarette safety may be taken for granted. It’s imperative to take note of charging etiquette to avoid any injuries, so we’ve put together on a list of six things you must know when using e-cigarette USB and main chargers. Keep on reading to find out what you should and shouldn’t be doing when it comes to charging your electronic cigarette.

Use the Appropriate Charger
Oftentimes, individuals lose or misplace the charger they were given with their device and run out to the convenience store or gas station to pick up a quick, cheap replacement. However, professionals strongly advise against using chargers that weren’t specifically designed for your device. When you use another charger, it may fit into your e-cigarette’s port and charge it, but that doesn’t mean it’s safe or meant for your device—it may have a different voltage or charge your battery to inappropriate levels. This poses a serious safety risk, and voltage that’s too high could cause irreversible damage to your device. If the charger that came with your vape breaks or is misplaced, it’ll be worth your while to spend the extra cash to buy a replacement from the official manufacturer.
Avoid Overnight Charging
While you should be charging your e-cigarette batteries until they reach 100%, you shouldn’t charge them past this point. A common practice is to charge electronic cigarette batteries using a wall plug adapter and leave it plugged in overnight. However, this can be detrimental to battery life and actually damage the battery’s ability to hold a charge. Leaving your e-cigarette charger plugged in all night can wear down your battery, making it less effective and causing technical problems down the line. The best time to charge your vape is when you’re awake and can unplug it shortly after it reaches a full charge.
Keep Out of Reach of Children and Pets
You should always keep your electronic cigarette out of the hands (and paws) of children and pets, but this rule is especially important when your device is charging. Use outlets that they can’t reach easily, or can’t reach at all. Pets can chew on cords and toddlers have a fascination with everything they aren’t allowed to touch, so make the safe choice for everyone and keep your charger out of sight and out of reach of children and pets.
Charge V2 Devices with V2 Chargers Only
When charging your e-cigarette, be sure to only use V2 chargers with V2 devices. While your iPhone adapter may appear to fit and charge your device, it won’t do it any good in the long run. V2 chargers will maintain your V2 device’s longevity and keep it functioning properly. The same rule applies here regarding voltage; different chargers will deliver different voltages, which could pose a safety risk and effectively ruin your device.
Never Modify V2 or V2 Pro Devices
V2 and V2 Pro devices are not meant to be modified in any way, shape, or form—not even with low-resistance attachments. Many people attempt to modify their devices in an effort to create stronger flavors and more impressive vapor clouds, but modifications are not recommended. Enthusiasts mix their own flavors and experiment with different combinations and see what modifications they like best, but there are downsides to modifying your vape. For starters, there’s the obvious safety risk—those who aren’t professionals and make DIY modifications on their devices aren’t educated on the technology, and they could make a mistake that could ruin their e-cigarette or even injure themselves. Secondly, if your electronic cigarette came with a warranty when you bought it and you make modifications to it, you risk invalidating the warranty completely. The manufacturer can’t be responsible for any damages or injuries that occur if you make your own adjustments to the device. If you want to up your e-cigarette game, try buying some vaping accessories instead of modifying the actual device.
Be Safe While Vaping
It’s important to enjoy and have fun with your e-cigarette by trying new liquids and accessories, but you should always keep your safety in the forefront of your mind. Do research before purchasing anything, and only buy liquids and accessories from reputable companies and brands; your health isn’t worth saving a few dollars. Cheap or imitation liquids and devices can seriously harm you, so look for the best-quality products when you’re buying.
