Technology has managed to infiltrate pretty much all aspects of our lives to the extent that there are about eight technological devices per person in each household. From smartphones, tablets, and laptops to wireless Bluetooth devices and entertainment systems, the vast scope of technological uses has surpassed previous expectations. In fact, content streaming accounted for about 71% of Internet traffic in 2017. As a direct result of all of these different types of devices taking up space in our homes, multiple-device households require multi-device chargers that can support them.

Rising Device Usage in U.S. Households
By 2022, the number of networked devices per individual person in each household is expected to jump from eight to a whopping 13.6! Networked devices vary in functionality and purpose. Smartphones, Bluetooth devices, entertainment systems, content streaming sticks, speaker systems, laptops, desktop computers, and wireless headphones all fit under this category amongst other things.
Although this number might seem a little farfetched at first, it actually makes a lot of sense when you really stop to think about all of the different ways in which you use technology on a daily basis. Technology—particularly smartphone usage—has become so seamlessly integrated into our daily lives, that we often don’t even realize how big of an impact it actually has until we no longer have access to it. Nomophobia is the fear of losing the ability to use mobile devices and other forms of technology either because they get lost or their batteries are depleted.
It sounds silly, but this is a very real phenomenon that millions of Americans and people around the world face every day. It’s that feeling of automatic dread you feel when you see your phone battery in the red or you realize you forgot your phone at home and will have to be without it all day.
International Multi-Device Trends Mirror U.S. Data
Many of the abovementioned trends are also happening in other countries around the world, including our neighbors to the north, Canada. Approximately 57% of Canadian baby boomers are using mobile devices to access the Internet; this is a huge jump from last year’s number which was 44%. In some parts of the world, smart home device ownership is still considered a very niche market. However, it’s still steadily on the rise. Nine percent of the European population owns at least one or more smart home devices like Google Home or Amazon’s Alexa. Compare that to 17% in North America and 13% in Asian Pacific countries.
Most likely the reason for these discrepancies in device usage trends around the world is due to socioeconomic conditions, cultural differences, device availability, and Internet access in certain countries. What the numbers do show, however, is that there’s a growing need for multi-device chargers that can support a wide range of devices.
As one of the leading technology companies in North America, Ohming Technology has created a sensible charging solution for multi-device households. The Charge M.E. is a multi-port charging station that has the capacity to charge numerous devices simultaneously without compromising on the amount of power each device receives.
